Partners ESI asked Spinifex to work with them on a rich media experience for 330 Hudson in NYC, the first of a series of similar projects across the US. The installation consists of a canvas of 9 LED screens in the lobby of the building that greet people as they enter the space and follow them to the lifts.
The screens cycle through different themes consisting of motion content and programmatic elements. Some themes display realtime weather feeds from around the world, animating slideshows of staff, info on local events or historical and current utility usage of the building. This monitoring of the building’s power usage helps fulfil a requirement for the building’s high environmental ranking. This is something Spinifex has dealt with before on projects for Sydney Theatre Company and Tyree at the Uni of NSW.
This was a large project so I brought Dave Towey on board to help me put it together in Cinder. The entire system was scheduled via a custom backend built in PHP/MySQL by Guillaume Bodi. All machines also spoke to a show control system built by McCann.
