This was an interactive installation that used body tracking and physics simulation to create a playful environment for the public to interact with animated sprites. Developed for Spinifex for the Honk Kong Environmental Protection Agency at the Shanghai Expo 2010.
Blob tracking and contour analysis allowed me to use the physical coordinates of users within a 2D physics simulation. As the users catch falling particles they either animate into butterflies and dragon flies or turn into chinese or english environmental slogans that can be planted in the ground to grow trees. There was also basic show control for staff and syncing across three separate machines and screens. This was developed in C++ using OpenFrameworks and designed by Ryan Close.
